Sometimes this

Though my staple read would be fiction, sometimes I like reading profound stuff like what Thiruvalluvar wrote. While I don't understand the pure Tamil verses, the translation in English helps.

I used to read a lot of Hindi literature in school and college but had difficulty reading in Marathi. Now, I stick to English.
I think Thiruvalluvar is mentioned in RK Narayan's Man Eater of Malgudi. Apparently, a guy after reading Thir's verses goes around town singing them in a loud voice for three days straight. His parents pack him off to a mental assylum but years later he tells the protagonist that the only reason he did what he wanted the world to hear how beautiful those verse were. :)

Jaya - I don't remember that - my re-read that book :)

Sig - that's why it's reserved for rare occasions - it's actually very simple in english - very simple facts of life relevant in today's times too.
