Atri and me visited this famous lane near MG Road which sells just about everything, in old fashioned shops. After some heavy duty exposure to mall culture, this felt so refreshing. Except that it was after noon and the sun was on our heads - I came here accompanying my aunt who wanted to get some shopping done here. I bought a box of the ready frankincense burning blocks, which luckily was in a shop right at the entrance of the lane, so I didn't have to walk much lugging Atri along. I intend to come here for some leisurely exploring and more colourful photos when my little one stays home with the hubby.
It's a pretty crowded narrow lane, so this picture was all I could manage as my son would keep trying to pull the camera while I tried hard to focus ;)
Edited to add another pic - showing some of the shops mentioned in the comments

Wow Nandu..ur exploring Hyd big time...This used to be my favourite lane before all the malls came up...There are lots of shops in here where u get good dresses/materials...try Taruni...that one used to be my favourite long long ago...
Also try this store called 'Kathiawar"...when u come out of the lane in this picture, take a right and walk a few metres...neone will tell u...
I miss Hyd :(...Y am I never in the place when my friends are there?? Imagine the gala time we wud have had :(...
Oh dint notice earlier..U are at Taruni he he...:P...enjoy Hyd...
Hehee, i checked Taruni, then my relative took us to Cheap Jacks on the main road opposite Kathiawar - where my aunt picked some kurtas, leggings etc. SO i went into this lane via all those stores, in face I took a pic of that parking lot around which the Bata, Jockey, Kathiawar and all those other stores are - but posted this pic instead
Yes, we would have had fun, were you here :)
Even if your son was pulling on your camera you captured the moment, "everyone doing their shopping".
I remember Cheap Jacks! This is hitting me with such a big wave of nostalgia I want to cry.
I was about to recommend Kathiawar too, see I'm beaten to it! I love, love this area, used to shop so much there!
Thanks Elisa!
Sra - Kathiawar is for cosmetics right? I saw a big Maybelline banner outside that shop and cheap jacks had some amazing cotton chudidaar-dupatta combos in my fav kalamkari prints - as i was holding atri I did not get a chance to see anything in detail - will go back soon...why dont you make a weekend trip here - we can relive your nostalgia and you can show me some of your haunts :)
Even a random shot in India is so colorful.. And this my dear is a great capture.
Though I have never been to Hydrabad, this is bringing back memories of the old bazar in my hometown. Love the hustle bustle, the narrow lanes and the crowds. The malls out here feel so synthetic compared to the natural warmth of these markets. Thank you for this pic.
I buy dress material by the dozen from Cheap Jack! Taruni has nice stuff, but the maal is at CJ!
Kathiawar is for appliances also... we got my MIL a toaster from there :) There's a great place called Off the Rack next to Kathiawar! Try it.
Thank you Sig - you are right about that.
Jaya - your line captures it all - synthetic Vs natural warmth, aptly put!
Raaga - well, i didn't know i was capturing such a popular haunt...im glad i posted this and got such fun comments - you buy dressmat in dozens from here?? Then I must atleast go and pick a couple :) they must be good!! I saw both kathiawar and off the rack - what does the later sell?
off the rack has export rejects and sometimes the real stuff.... so polo t shirts will be about 7-800 bucks... but they have more stuff for men than women... this is a firm favourite with most of my guy friends
ooh there is a store called park avenue or something. Lovely lovely stuff.
Plus, eat at Nanking :D
